Student Motivation: The keys to being motivated on the Way of Learning.

One of the most powerful forces of education success is motivation. However, it is also among the hardest tasks that students have to cope with. Most learners are excited to start school year but with time the stress, workloads, and doubt may weaken the excitement. Motivation is a crucial part of learning since learning is not about being bright but is about perseverance and attitude.

A clear purpose is one of the initial steps towards being motivated. Students who know the purpose of their studies are likely to remain committed. Education is important when it is related to individual objectives, and the objective may be to join a preferred field or profession, to become independent, to maintain a family, or to realize personal development. Motive helps one to see studying not as a burden, but as a path.

Another effective strategy is the setting of goals into small steps. Academic objectives are enormous (like passing a final exam) or a degree, which is fermenting. Effective learners put their attention on smaller goals, such as completing a task, one skill, or a chapter. Every little victory creates a surge and confidence.

Environment is also critical in motivation. Students that have an encouraging teacher, friends, or family members will be more encouraged to remain so. Good communities make the learners aware that they are not the only ones. Motivation can be enhanced even in the context of study groups, where accountability and common progress could be developed.

One other important consideration is to shun unhealthy comparison. Students are always comparing grades, achievements or learning speed with others making most of them lose their motivation. But education is not a race. All learners are different in terms of speed, background and strength. However, growth is to be compared with personal improvement and not with a success of another person.

Balance and rest is as well important. One of the largest motivation killers is burnout. Learners who study continuously without taking breaks tend to experience fatigue, frustration and lack of engagement in learning. Sleep, exercise, pursuits, and meditation make up the healthy habits. The student who is well balanced will be much more productive as compared to the one who is tired.

Curiosity is also a way of strengthening motivation. Learning will be fun when students are not afraid of approaching the subject they are interested in. Curiosity and engagement can be aroused by asking questions, discussing things outside the syllabus and relating what they learn with real life experiences.

Student motivation also depends significantly on teachers. Students can be motivated to persist by encouraging feedback and rewarding effort and helpful instructions. Small words of support can make the difference in the perception of a learner regarding his or her potential.

Lastly, resilience is created to build motivation. Difficulties, losses and disappointments are inevitable in learning. The most successful students do not always fail but learn and move on. All the challenges are a chance to develop.

To sum up, purpose, little steps, support, balance, curiosity and resilience are necessary in order to remain motivated in the learning process. Students do not lack motivation or possess it, it is a process that they develop gradually with the help of regular exercising and their faith in their capabilities.
